Polyester corrugated sheets are extra strong and translucent corrugated sheets. A polyester corrugated sheet is made of a polyester resin into which sheets of fibreglass are incorporated. This makes for a good and cheap corrugated sheet that is also much more resistant to rain and hail than a PVC corrugated sheet. Our corrugated sheets are from the supplier Novolite. The strength of polyester corrugated sheets
In the Netherlands, we see many carports and canopies covered with plastic corrugated sheets, for which polyester corrugated sheet is a common choice. Polyester corrugated sheets are in fact reinforced by the glass fibre it contains and is therefore perfect for this application. Polyester corrugated sheet is cloudy in appearance and is 75% translucent. Furthermore, it has a yellowish colour, which you should take into account if you are looking for corrugated sheets that are also aesthetically pleasing.
The difference between PVC, polycarbonate and polyester corrugated sheets
The main difference is in the durability, light transmission and strength of the material. Corrugated PVC sheets are generally cheaper and easy to process, but they are less strong and less resistant to UV radiation. Polycarbonate, on the other hand, is a lot stronger, lightweight and offers excellent weather and impact resistance, making it ideal for applications where robustness is important. Corrugated polyester sheets sit between PVC and polycarbonate in terms of price and quality. The less transparent sheets are resistant to chemicals and suitable for agricultural and industrial environments, but they are also an ideal choice for the home. If you are making a temporary canopy or are going to make a simple roof for a greenhouse or garden shed, PVC or polyester corrugated sheets are a good choice. For a carport, however, we recommend polycarbonate sheets, which are impact-resistant, strong and durable.
