Description
Polycarbonate sheets
Polycarbonate sheets are channel sheets that are stronger than glass and Plexiglas. Because a polycarbonate channel sheet springs along, the material can withstand a lot of weight. Moreover, 16 mm polycarbonate sheets are virtually unbreakable, while Plexiglas cracks and glass shatters. Did you know that 16mm polycarbonate is as much as 250 times stronger than glass, but also much lighter?
Polycarbonate sheets of 16 mm
The 16mm polycarbonate channel sheets are multi-walled and have an X-structure running through them. This provides extra strength. Besides the X-structure, there is also a 7-walled version. This is used less, as the X-structure is a stronger sheet. The 16mm and also the 25 and 32mm all have a certain X-structure in the sheet. As polycarbonate sheets are widely used as roofing sheets, they need to be stronger, more durable and also capable of larger spans. The X-structure of the polycarbonate channel sheet helps with this.
The advantages of a polycarbonate channel sheet:
- Impact-resistant
- Burglary resistant
- Minimum thickness tolerance
- Fire retardant
- 2.5 kg m²
- UV protection
- U-value of 2
Application
Because a polycarbonate channel plate As its 16 mm thickness is sturdy, it is mainly used as roofing sheet for a veranda, extension, greenhouse or skylight. Of course, the sheet can also be used as a windbreak, glass replacement, protective sheet or skylight. The span the sheet can make is 80 cm, so it fits many frames. In most cases, 16 mm is fine. We do not recommend a larger span than 80 cm. If you do want to make a span of more than 80 cm, we recommend buying the 25 mm sheet.
Length and width measurements
You determine the length and width of the channel plate. For example, you can choose a length of 2000 to 4000mm. In terms of width, the 16mm also offers many options. You can choose a width of 980, 1050, 1200 and 2100 mm. This way, you are never left with too many polycarbonate channel sheets and you no longer need to cut them to size yourself. Very convenient!
Clear or opal
Two colours are commonly used when making 16mm polycarbonate channel sheets, namely clear and opal. The reason is that these sheets are often used outdoors for verandas, extensions, greenhouses, etc. The clear sheets allow a lot of light through, and the UV protection means they retain their beauty for a long time. They allow no less than 92% of light through. This is why a polycarbonate sheet is often used for skylights or as an outdoor glass replacement. This makes it possible to create a beautiful veranda with lots of light.
In contrast, a 16mm polycarbonate channel sheet in the colour opal allows less light through, only 60%. Of course, enough light still gets in, but a sheet in this colour repels the sun better. It also gets less hot under these sheets, above they offer UV protection and can be used well outdoors.
