Description

A foamboard board, also known as foam board called, is a lightweight and rigid board consisting of a core of foam, often polystyrene or polyurethane, with a smooth cardboard or plastic top layer on both sides. These boards are widely used for presentations, displays, photomontages, models, and various creative applications. They are popular for their versatility and ease of use.

What Foamboard consists of

Foamboard consists of three layers: a core of foam (usually polystyrene or polyurethane) between two outer layers of paper or cardboard. This combination makes for a lightweight yet sturdy material.

Here is a brief description of the components:

  1. Foam core: This is usually made of polystyrene foam. It is light and offers a certain degree of rigidity and insulation.
  2. Paper or cardboard outer layers: The outer layers, on the front and back of the foam, are often made of firm paper or thin cardboard. This provides a smooth surface ideal for printing, painting or applying graphics.

Foamboard is popular for its balance between lightweight and sturdiness, and is often used for art projects, presentations, and models.

Foam board features

oamboard, also known as foamcore, is a lightweight and versatile material often used for various applications, such as presentations, models, and art projects. Here are some key properties of foamboard:

  1. Lightweight: Foamboard is very light, making it easy to work with and transport.
  2. Solidity: Despite its light weight, foam board offers good structural strength and retains its shape.
  3. Smooth surface: The surface of foamboard is smooth and ideal for applying prints, paintings, or other graphic applications.
  4. Easy to cut: Foamboard can be easily cut to size with a sharp knife or cutter, making it suitable for making precise shapes.
  5. Insulating properties: The core material (foam) provides a degree of insulation, both thermal and soundproofing.
  6. Available in different thicknesses: Foamboard often comes in standard thicknesses such as 3 mm, 5 mm, and 10 mm, depending on the application.
  7. Not water-resistant: Foamboard is not resistant to water or moisture, making it less suitable for outdoor use or humid environments.
  8. Different finishes: It can come with a matt or glossy finish, depending on the desired aesthetic or application.

Foamboard is popular for making displays, stitching artwork, and as a backdrop for photography because of its versatility and ease of use.

What is the difference between Kapa Fix, Kapa Line and Kapa plast

Kapa is a brand that produces a range of different types of foam board, each with specific properties for different applications. The three common variants are Kapa Fix, Kapa Line, and Kapa Plast. Below is a description of the differences:

  1. Kapa Fix:
    • Properties: This type of foam board has an adhesive surface on one side, making it ideal for easily attaching photos, prints, and other graphic work without additional glue.
    • Use: Kapa Fix is well suited for presentations, displays and other applications where quick and tight mounting work is required.
  2. Kapa Line:
    • Properties: Kapa Line has a polyurethane foam core and is covered with white cardboard. The cardboard on the outside is acid-free, making it suitable for archival materials and works of art that need to be stored for a long time without discolouring or degrading.
    • Use: It is often used for high-quality presentations, models and professional art applications.
  3. Kapa Plast:
    • Properties: Kapa Plast has a polyurethane foam core with plastic (polyethylene) outer layers, instead of paper. This makes the foam board stronger and more resistant to moisture and chemical influences.
    • Use: Kapa Plast is suitable for outdoor use, for situations where sturdiness and weather resistance are required, such as in signage or outdoor advertising.

Briefly, the three types differ mainly in their outer layers and specific applications: Kapa Fix is self-adhesive, Kapa Line has acid-free board for archival work, and Kapa Plast is moisture-resistant and more robust for outdoor use.
