Description
HMPE or High Molecular Polyethylene, UHMWPE is the wear-resistant relative of PE or Polyethylene. The material is composed of long molecular chains that result in high wear resistance and toughness. Another name for HMPE is Werkstoff S®. We supply HMPE sheet in versions 500 and 1000. Type HMPE 500 is already a particularly wear-resistant material. Type HMPE 1000 goes considerably further in this respect and is in demand for the most demanding applications.
HMPE is an abrasion-resistant plastic but not an abrasion-resistant construction plastic like PA6 Nylon, PETP (Arnite), Hard fabric (Celleron) and partly POM that are. Thus, in applications where there is high pressure (high weight) on the material in addition to abrasive or rolling action, we recommend one of the aforementioned plastics. PA6 nylon is the most common of these.
