Description
What is a PE plate for?
Polyethylene is a versatile plastic. PE sheets can be used for all kinds of purposes and are particularly suitable for outdoor use, but also in the packaging industry to construction. The area of application of a PE sheet is therefore enormously broad. Polyethylene sheets are used for, among other things:
- Horse stables
- Trailers
- Horticulture
- Industrial construction
- Border and pond edges
- Civil engineering
- Hobby use
The properties of polyethylene sheet
Polyethylene is a thermoplastic polymer known for its strong, durable and flexible properties. PE sheet is incredibly strong and has a high tensile strength. The sheets are resistant to breakage and can be used in situations where strength is essential. Moreover, PE sheets have high impact strength, meaning they do not crack or tear easily when subjected to sudden impact loads. Despite its high quality, we offer the polyethylene material at an affordable unit price.
We name the most important features:
- Solid and robust
- High impact resistance and flexibility
- No water absorption
- Resistant to chemicals, acids, UV radiation and ageing
- Distributed expansion with temperature increase
- Does not rot or splinter
- Environmentally friendly and fully recyclable
- Excellent cleaning
- Easy to process with ordinary woodworking machines
- A tolerance of about 2% is possible in both dimensions and thickness
Tailor-made PE sheet
The standard size of a black polyethylene sheet is 3000x1500mm, with a thickness of 10, 12, 15, 18 or 25mm. Sheets of 18mm are particularly popular. If the standard dimensions are not to your liking, we can cut them to size for you. Give us your desired dimensions and we will make it happen. There are additional costs associated with cutting the sheets to size. Would you like to receive more information about this or buy polyethylene sheets directly? Feel free to contact us, we will be happy to help.
Are PE sheets to be glued or welded?
Polyethylene sheets are not easy to bond because of their low surface energy and high crystallinity. The low surface energy means that there is little adhesion between the material and the adhesive, while the high crystallinity means that the material does not melt when heated and therefore cannot be welded. Therefore, mechanical fastening methods, such as screwing or riveting, are often required when working with PE sheets. However, the following operations are possible: drilling, welding, bending, turning, sawing, welding and milling.
